Now that we have our blog up and running, its time to fill it with some content! As we’re currently post processing wedding jobs, the next few posts will feature some of our favourite past pics.
World Youth Day - or week was a huge event that happened last year in Sydney. It was so amazing to see the influx of pilgrims in the city. I’m really interested by how events can change and define the character and appearance of places.

The view itself is typical Sydney, but the clouds add so much drama and intensity to the image.

Its amazing standing on the cahill expressway. The best views are reserved for motorists!

The moment that stopped the nation! Everyone was peering out from their windows and congregating along the waters edge to catch a glimpse of the travelling pope. Although this made for a dramatic pic, the pope in his cruise boat did a quick 180 and headed to barangaroo.

The pope zooming past. Everyone had some sort of camera on them for the shot.

Before and after the barangaroo events, all the pilgrims marched down George street waving and singing

We’re beginning this year by starting a blog. People have been asking when we were going to get one together. Since we’re taking a break this first half of the year, we thought it’d be a perfect time to set up a blog to update you on some of our recent work, including some of our non-wedding photography. We hope you enjoy it!
Firstly, it’s such a privilege to be respected and to work in something we really enjoy. We’ve always been keen ‘friends’ photographers ever since we could remember. We even remember photographing at each other’s wedding. Moving into professional photography was a natural extension for both of us. We both come from design backgrounds. Dawn studied Visual Communications and then worked as an animator for Disney, and Andrew practiced as an architect in a leading design firm.
We’ve come a long way since starting in 2006. We’ve upgraded our gear, we’ve streamlined our workflow, and of course we’re constantly refining our craft as photographers. One of the best things about photography is that there is no end to learning and so we’re keen to grow even more. We’re always critiquing our work and being inspired by the great masters like Cartier-Bresson and more contemporary photographers like Jeff Ascough.
Our aim at Storyphotography is to create elegant and natural documentary-style images, and we look forward to capturing more memories and telling more stories with our photography.

There was constant rain throughout Aidan’s and Bethanys wedding day. The rain really challenged us to come up with some of our best work to date. The light was fantastically soft, the locations were really classy and the bride and groom were really in control throughout. We rarely directed the action, just photographing what was there was already perfect. Thanks guys.

I love this photo! It looks like a scene lifted from an old movie. Bethany looked so retro and so elegant.

The bride looks as if she’s in a photo frame. The house has an historic feel to it, with heavy dark wood door frames, lovely wall paper and stained glass windows. I really enjoyed shooting there- there were so many possibilities and interesting compositions.

The colours are beautiful and rich here- the orange Christmas lights give such a nice atmosphere, and the green in the tie really lifts the photo.

And this is just cool!

It never stopped raining that day, but that made the light beautifully soft.

The church had lighting that was quite difficult- it was like having spotlights everywhere. But it added to the drama of the photos.

Walsh Bay was a great spot to take pics in the rain. Its like a ready made photostudio.

In post processing the photos from their location shoot, we made the colours a bit desaturated, but upped the contrast of light and dark. That really suited the rainy day and soft light, and gave the photos more mood.

It was fun shooting for Richard and Lina. Lina is Swedish and super stylish. Richard knows a thing or two about buildings and made sure we had great locations to shoot at. The ceremony was at St James on King Street. The shoot was essentially a walk in and out of Hyde Park, and the reception was at one of my favourite buildings, The Mint.

This composition was entirely natural, but it worked so well! The framing of the ornate door, the rich brown and gold colours, and the clear silhouettes make the photo look like a carefully composed oil painting.

St Johns on King Street

The couple signed their registry in this beautiful sanctuary

The angles of the building and of the streets and fence add so much to the photo. Everything focuses in on the bride and groom, and they are staged perfectly.

This was one of Richard and Lina’s favourite shot. A vast, clean backdrop, with purposeful action, and of course the gorgeous little flowergirl in red!

The reception was across the road at the Mint building.

John and Natalie were our first wedding shoot of 2009. We were introduced through Nats sister Cecilia who we went on beach mission together at Toowoon Bay. The ceremony and the shoot was at Swain Gardens in Killara. Although it was cloudy, rain never threatened and we had really beautiful light throughout. I farewelled the couple as they boarded their floating reception from Huntleys Point wharf.
